My wife and I booked a flight from hartford to myrtle beach with plans to care for a close relative dying from cancer. my relative died days before our scheduled flight,so we called spirit air 4 times in an attempt to cancel our departing flight and book an earlier one so as to make the funeral and memorial services. each time i called customer service i was told that i could make changes myself on their website for free, or customer service could make the changes for me over the phone for an additional charge of $300!! After numerous and unsuccessful attempts to change my travel plans on line and over the phone, my wife and I decided to book an earlier flight out on another airline, and to return on the original return flight with spirit. 24 hours before our spirit flight back to hartford we tried unsuccessfully to check in on line. we then called spirit's "stellar" customer service department and was told that because we were not on the flight from hartford that our return flight had been forfeited as well! How absurd!!!! spirit offered to book me a new reservation back home and they would gladly charge me again. i told them that this was unacceptable and that i wanted to speak to a supervisor. the customer service rep said that the supervisor would be calling me back on the cell number that i gave them. Needless to say that phone call never came....Great customer service folks! keep it up and you will be out of business soon. we booked a flight on American airlines which was one hour longer, but it was worth it.....We will NEVER fly with spirit again and we encourage all our relatives and friends not to fly with them as well. if this is how they treat people then i expect that someday they will not have anymore customers, and i hope they go out of business, as well as the Bank of America for not standing behind us when we disputed the charges! Corporate america sucks ass!

Arrived when the other flight was gone and we couldn't do anything. We had to stay 24 hrs for the next flight and we paid for every thing. The personnel is an uneducated low paid people and act rude and unethical period. They need to have a federal case on their company and do an investigation.

Yeah spirit is a joke. The only thing you can expect is at some point within a week of your flight date, you will eventually get onto your flight or you will get a refund. Almost their entire customer...

You don't even want to know how much the other incidentals cost. So I go back and double check and now the fare is up to $260! Talked to an agent at the airport who said they couldn't get us on a new flight for 2 days. And could not assist with a flight thru another airline. So wait for 2 more days or receive a refund were the only options. I had them refund everything and found a new flight on United which last minute is several $$$ more now. Do not get sucked in by their low fares!

My daughter was to fly to New Orleans for a long weekend. The flight was delayed,two then four hours. Just before leaving for the airport another email was sent canceling the flight with a re-book three days later. The same day as the return flight, insulting and frustrating. Please avoid this airline, they are rude, incompetent and to top it off provide and uncomfortable seat and spacing. For what it's worth I have used Frontier who has similar pricing but provided a much better experience.

Then going to the ticket counter to find that our Friday flight had been cancelled, but "you can fly standby on Sunday!"
and open contempt on the faces of the Spirit Employees when we asked for them to book us on another airline or pay for our hotel.
The excuse? Weather. Funny thing was, another airline was flying the same route at the same time. Not cancelled.
My kid had to be at his camp on Sunday, before the flight.
We had to rent a car to drive from Boston to Atlanta.

In the airline industry’s race to the bottom, Spirit Airlines leads the pack. Spirit airlines is literally the worst airline in the history of aviation; at every stage of the process, they fail to deliver even the tiniest shred of value. The airline industry; having been commoditized over the last few decades following de-regulation, has finally reached the lowest level of market economy Hell. My story is simple. I had a 1pm flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta leaving at 1pm. In the airport, Spirit delayed the flight to 3pm. My ticket said doors close 15 minutes before departure. So I ate lunch and showed up at the gate 30 minutes before departure, just as the gate staff were closing the door. I asked nicely if they could let me on the flight and the woman, whose name is Regina, told me the door was closed and no one could get thru and would I like to reschedule for the 11:30pm flight to Detroit where I could catch a flight to Atlanta. I was livid, but I met a stone wall of smug, rude gate staff who told me that if I continued asking for them to solve my problem than I would be removed from the next flight. It was horrible. Spirit has lost my business forever, and I will share this story and this website with everyone I know. We, as customers, have a duty to make sure poor-customer-Service is a recipe for ruin on the part of the airlines. Let’s put Spirit and it’s clueless management on the street where they belong. DO NOT FLY SPIRIT AIRLINES!

Forced purchase of a 2nd ticket and total disrespect

I have just completed the final payment on my credit card and mustered the strength to write a complaint, minus a lot of emotions, about my treatment at the hands of Spirit Airlines employees on the morning of July 27, 2017. The taste in my mouth for Spirit Airlines continues to be unpalatable.

I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran and senior citizen. I live on a very limited budget. I am alone in New Orleans. I got stuck, after coming to help after Hurricane Katrina.

My family planned a reunion in Cancun. We had 2 years to plan for this trip. For 2 years I paid my monthly installments and squirreled money away for the trip.

We were coming from all over the United States, I was so excited. I haven’t seen at lot of these folks in 45 years. I budgeted my money for everything I could think of; the taxi ride to & from the airport, the airfare to Mexico, the hotel room, even estimated my meal cost. There is no room for error. This trip is so important.

I was so excited about this trip, I couldn’t sleep the night before. I arrived at New Orleans International Airport at 4:40 in the morning. I attempted to check in at the kiosk, to no avail. I stood in front of the Spirit Airlines counter for a while. I was the only passenger in the lobby. There were 5 people behind the counter and no one seemed to want to assist me. After what seemed like an eternity I walked up to the counter and said, “Excuse me. “ I felt like an imposition to the people behind the counter. I was told to wait. I waited quietly. It seemed like another lifetime passed. Lady #1 asked me, “What do you want?” I told her I was there to check in for my flight. I gave her my name, flight information & presented my passport. She played with her coworkers, punched some keys on the computer and told me the flight was gone. I had all of my information in my hand and the flight didn’t leave until 6:00am; it’s more than an hour until the flight takes off.

I asked for explanation and she walked away. I made eye contact with the other 4 people around the desk and they all avoided me like the plague. I was in tears. I found a place to sit down to call Spirit Airlines. They were unable to assist me. They told me to return to the counter for immediate assistance.

I was a complete wreck, finally able to get the attention and sympathy of a young man. By this time people were beginning to line up in front of the counter. He informed me there was nothing that he could do. I asked to speak with the Supervisor. Lady #1 was within earshot, he bowed his head in her direction and walked away. Now, I’m wondering is something wrong with me - no one answers my questions and everyone walks away.

I went back to where the line begins and waited to be recognized. I approached the counter this time and lady #2, very laxed asked what I was there for. I asked again for the Supervisor, with a slight nod from #2, #1 responded to my request with “I’m who you need to talk to.” Suddenly there were 5 employees around the desk and I became the victim. 3 of them were interacting as if I wasn’t standing there and 2 were silent, keeping their heads down. I heard things like, “She think she going to Mexico, today” from lady #1; “She just keep asking a bunch of question, like she wanna argue” from lady #2; “She just don’t know, we can tell if you lying” from #3 , young man.

Again, I returned to the seating area and called Spirit Airlines, after I calmed myself down. I made them aware that the airport counter was hostile. In short, they told me I would have to purchase another ticket, if the current airline staff was unable to apply my ticket to a new purchase. I had to make a seriously quick decision. I made the purchase over the phone. I had to call my destination to change my plans. It was clearly a hostile situation at the counter, but I had too much riding on this trip and I had to make it. I attempted to check in at the kiosk again, no avail.



Then I saw another couple of passengers looking just as thread-worn as me, with the exact same story. Lady #1 would not allow them to check-in. The young man looked defeated, he said he wasn’t sure what he did to upset her. We exchanged contact information, that I have since lost.

I returned to the counter. There was a family at one of the registers and a 2nd register was manned by lady #2. I thought this will be easy, because she’s already familiar with my situation. As I approached the 2nd register another family got in line behind me. She, lady #2, pointed and told me I would have to get in line, if I intended to get to Mexico.

In the end lady #1 reluctantly checked me in. There was still resistance from her, I had to remind her that she needed to check my passport as the kiosk was unable to.

I was surprised that Spirit was not interested in assisting me or in finding alternative ways of reaching my destination. I still, to this day, don’t understand why I had to buy another ticket, why I was treated so poorly or why getting to Cancun was such a task. It was clear the culture at New Orleans International Spirit Airlines counter is toxic, as Mexico and Orlando had great staff; neither staff understood why the original ticket could not be credited to the new ticket.

I am over 60 years old, I have been flying since the old days when customers were important. Just a few years ago I was in Japan and had an unfortunate incident in the airport, but the airline took me aside rectified the problem and I was on my way. I got stuck in Atlanta once, the airline fed me and put me up for the night. In all of my interactions with airlines over my many years I have never felt so demeaned, insulted, disenfranchised, humiliated and totally ignored as a customer.

Suffice it to say, Spirit made me buy 2 airlines tickets and degraded me. I have a bad taste in my mouth for Spirit Airlines. I will not fly Spirit Airlines and will tell everyone, I come in contact with, to fly any airline but Spirit. We get what we pay for.

And being a member of the $9 fare appears to subject you to extra surveillance and fee adjustments. I used to purchase the 'Big Front Seat'. But the price has skyrocketed from $23 to $47. Is Spirit charging different prices based on customers history?

My father would call this 'chicken shit' and I believe that is apropos! The new CEO is ruining a good business model with this crap. He should have a washroom conference with some customers and be a taught a lesson.

Spirit Air's customer service is horrible. 4 of us booked flights for 7 am down to Florida to go on a cruise. We found out that 2 am that morning, Spirit technicians were working on the plane to fix some "communication issue" to be able to talk to the stewards over the intercom system. However, Spirit kept delaying the take off by an hour until it was too late for us to go to another airport and book a last minute flight to catch our cruise. Needless to say we missed out cruise. So when it was too late and another updated delay, we decided to get our bags and go home disappointed vacationers. Upon trying to get a credit for the airfare, we were only given the option to have a "credit shell" which is basically a credit to fly another time since our flight wasn't cancelled at this point. So instead of waiting another 4 hrs (which would have been over 12 hrs at the airport) we decided to take the credit. The following day we found out that the flight was cancelled. We called customer service (not the airport) and asked for a refund. Customer service told us that they couldn't do anything because we did the credit at the airport (Atlantic City, NJ) and would have to go to the airport (over an hr away) to get the refund. Since we missed our vacation because of Spirit's mechanical issues and continuous delaying of the flight when they knew 100% that the flight was going to be cancelled, we drove down to get this credit rectified and changed to a refund based on the customer service representative. Well lo and behold, the airport told us that they couldn't do anything and to call customer service. So we called customer service again while at the airport and all the person kept repeating was the company's ** line about how they can't refund the money because we took the credit. Again, we took the credit because that was all that was offered to us since the flight wasn't cancelled at this point and we weren't waiting another 4 hrs until it was. They already screwed us on missing our cruise and now they are screwing us on the credit to refund request. I will never fly Spirit again after I attempt to use up my credit. I'm sure there will be an issue with that and not customer service to help or deny the issue. I hope people refuse to use this airline. I get it's a cheaper airline and you get what you pay for, but I wasn't the cause of the issues. If the issues were our fault, I would understand better however they weren't. I really hope this company goes down the tubes and people stop flying with them. So disappointed.

I have traveled with them several times, always disappointed but wanted them to redeem themselves. That is impossible. I will NEVER travel with them again. I booked a flight with them in April, they decided to cancel my flight months later, with no compensation whatsoever. They refunded my money (which they made it seem I should thank them for this). They no longer offer the travel into the city I was traveling. I'm now forced to spend 3 times the amount looking for a last minute flight on another airline. I will not make this mistake again. Customer service "supervisor" was zero help at all. I told her several times what my name was. She could see my name written down and kept calling me another name. How on earth Liza employee # ** is a "supervisor"? Very telling on how they conduct business. I wish I could give Spirit negative stars.

I refused and after 30 minutes on the phone with them they told me the only way to get a boarding pass was to go to the ticket counter. But that would cost $10! For a ** boarding pass. Then I told them to cancel the flight as I made it within 24 hrs. They refused as the ticket had to be for travel after 7 days. These people are the biggest rip off I've ever seen. They should be shut down by the FAA. Nothing but a scam!

I am taking a flight on Spirit this morning and all was going well until it was time to check my bag. I pre-paid for my luggage, bad enough. There are still some good airlines that don't charge for the first bag. Now most airlines allow you 50lbs in luggage but of course Spirit is "different" for lack of a better word. So I found out you only allow 40lbs. My bag was exactly 50. Now the cost is $30 for being over. Now is $30 crazy, no, however, when the manager just allowed her friend who she's been talking to on the line for 10min to check in a bag for 52lbs with no charge right in front of you and when you address it her answer is "well she has two bags it evens out" but she didn't realize I saw the first bag which also weighed over 50lbs then there is a problem. Now it's 4am and I did not feel like embarrassing myself in front of everyone or making a scene for fear of the "convenient" loss of my luggage and that's the only reason why I obliged and paid the fee without asking to speak with someone above the manager. Spirit is cheaper than most airlines but they also say you get what you pay for and by the time you take on all the fees you charge for EVERYTHING you're going to end up spending what you would've spent for no hassle from JetBlue, American or Delta anyway. This is my last flight with Spirit. I should've known better after Spirit lost my brother and his wife's luggage for their honeymoon and they went 4 of 7 days on a cruise with no clothes or toiletries. I would like a callback from someone so I can make an official complaint.

Thought I had system figured out and next time they canceled my return flight home due to "weather" at the gate. Apparently this happens a lot with Spirit. I rented a car and drove home ten hours to Atlanta from Detroit and the weather was beautiful and sunny the whole way home. It is not a discount when you add in all the fees and especially hotel and food since they said it would be several days until they could get me home!!! Won't fly them ever again. I have been screwed by Spirit once too often now. You people are out to mislead, humiliate and generally steal customers' money. When my wife and I went to your ticket counter on Sunday to give them our bags (which you had already screwed us on), we were told the bags total were 10 pounds overweight. We told them they were crazy because they were the same bags we checked in New Orleans without an "overweight" problem. We brought nothing in Las Vegas so we added no weight to the bags. We then reluctantly ponied up our AMEX card to pay the $30.00 fee. Your ticket person then announced to and anyone else standing nearby that our AMEX card had been declined. I asked her to run it again because I had just used it with no problem. She again announced that it had been declined. We gave her a debit card which then paid the $30.00. I called the credit card company about the decline and they told me that YOUR ticket people had keyed in the wrong CCV not once, but twice!!! Pretty embarrassing. I had to demand a receipt before I was given one, a copy of which is attached. I also requested a statement from AMEX about the incident. And on another subject, the flight. We got on the flight and were seated in back of a ** family. After your crew closed the doors, a flight attendant proceeded to start with the safety spiel. While she was doing her thing, the father in the seat in front of us was showing his son a picture on his phone. When the attendant was finished, she walked over to the father and pretty much accused him of taking her picture or recording her in some way. The father told her he was not doing anything but she insisted on having him delete I guess his phone or something. He told her again that he did not record anything. I guess she figured she should drop it before she got into a bind. Looked a little bit racist to me. Might want to think about a little more training for her. You can be assured that I am going to raise a stink about this to anyone that will listen to me or has a complaint line or website. But, for now, you can say that you screwed another sucker.

In March 2016, I was trying to check in for my flight and was using a kiosk. The kiosk (computer) asked for my information and then asked if I had any bags to check. I said yes, because I had a small purse that I was carrying on. I swiped my credit card and got an error page saying that I needed to see the attendant at the counter, so I assumed that I hadn't been charged the $55 baggage fee. I never received a receipt or boarding passes from this kiosk. The attendant that checked me in said I didn't have to pay for my purse that I was carrying on because it was so small, and I went on my way. When I got to my destination, I noticed that I had a $55 charge on my bank account. I later called Spirit and they told me they couldn't refund the money, but they would email me with a credit for my next flight. I never received this email. I contacted my bank to have them dispute the charge. Recently, they got back to me and said that they found the charge to be accurate. How is this charge accurate?!? I paid for something I didn't need to pay for, and was never given a receipt for! I would've disputed it at the counter while I was at the airport if I thought that it had gone through! I never got a confirmation from that kiosk! I will never ever fly Spirit again!!!

Today fight305 from BWI to FLL was canceled after the second delay notifications, due to some odds in the engine. It's the first day of this vacation and this ruined all passengers vacation. The staff at airport are stupid and unfriendly. They didn't solve any problem but just told me to call their service hotline to rebook by myself. There're no help, no apologies, no compensation from them at all. I should arrived at Miami 2pm but in the end after searching for all airlines, I could only take America airline and fly to Palm beach airport, and it arrives at 12am in the evening. I almost spend whole day waiting in Baltimore airport and waste my vacation. I accept that spirit charges many many extra fee due to its ticket is "cheap" but I can never accept the staffs' attitude and their ability to solve the problems. It's because their poor flight conditions and they don't give any compensation for inconvenience brought to passengers. I will never take Spirit anymore. It's really the worst airline in the world.

This is an unprofessional airline and I would not recommend anyone dealing with them plus you have to pay for seats after you have booked the flight, thought seats come with the flight. Spirit cancelled my 16-year-old's return flight when their customer service team did not note a separate flight was also being utilized, stranding him on Detroit on the way to Boston. No refund is being given for ANYTHING. And it is, of course my fault that I didn't want to pay $465 to fix the original date. One entire round-trip ticket cancelled without notification to me, and no refund on the return flight for my daughter. His dad and I had to drive another 7.5 hours each to meet in NY. Never again will I do business with this company.

PLEASE do not fly Spirit Airlines. Save yourself the headache and money. They nickel and dime you for everything after you purchase ticket. Do not use your credit card for board purchases because they double charge you and will not give your money back and even act like they don't know what you're talking about. They say they cannot find the charge and to go online to file a complaint but when you do that then there's a whole nother set of problems that is too detailed to go into. I've been on the phone with them for 1 1/2 hours trying to clear up a double charge that they say they can't see when clearly it was deducted from my account. Everyone can see the charge my bike myself but they can't see it somehow. Then after I stayed on the phone that long the manager gets online and then tells me that I have to file a claim online. That he cannot do anything. I ended up having to call my bank to dispute it because I got no help from Spirit Airlines with the situation. It is still pending and I still don't have my money back. Do yourself a favor and fly another airline. I will never use them again even if they're the lowest rate available.

I agree with an earlier review. Spirit Air needs to be renamed Scandal Air. There's a reason Spirit Airlines scores rock bottom on government rankings. In case, you do not read all of this, I'll say right up front. I hope you'll join me in telling online booking services that compare airline prices (i.e. Kayak, Priceline, etc) that they should not include Spirit Airlines. Spirit Airlines prices are NEVER what they seem and cannot be compared other airlines. I used an online search engine to compare airlines and get the cheapest flight. What began as a $394 fare ended up becoming well over $500. Other airlines offered prices for a lot less and greater comfort. During the purchase, a "$9 fare membership" window kept popping up. I kept closing it. While looking at checking bags, it popped up again saying "You will save $9 per bag if you purchase a $9 fare membership." Well, that makes the membership free (pays for itself) I thought, so why not. AT THE END OF THE TRANSACTION, I saw, for the first time, the cost was actually $59, not $9. There was no option to uncheck that item, like there typically is when reviewing a summary before making payment and there was no option to go back. The entire process took so long and was so cumbersome. I didn't want to start from the beginning. So, I made the purchase AND within TWO MINUTES contacted Spirit to tell them I did not want the membership. I was told that "It wouldn't be fair to others if I got to get a refund," and they did not care that the purchase was made two minutes ago. We went back and forth, with no results. (Yes, I kept all the emails. Yes, I will be sending this to the FAA and Attorney General.) Next, shortly before the actual trip I received an urgent notice to purchase seats or they will cost up to $100 at the airport. Strange, because I'm so used to selecting seats when booking but I didn't recall that option automatically appearing as it typically does. In somewhat of a panic (as their marketers expected), I went online and purchased seats asap in fear that if I didn't, we might be bumped off the flight or have to pay $100 each at the airport. Voila. $500+ plane tickets. What was not clear, you're not required to purchase seats and we could have used general boarding. Why the urgent notices? It seems to make the situation seem like an urgent matter that you must act on. And about that $9 fare club? It is a $9-fare Club or "$9 fare" Club...NOT a $9 Fare-Club or $9 "Fare Club." However they advertise it as a $9 Fare Club making no distinction if the $9 is the cost of membership (which I assumed it was) or if this was something about getting fares for $9 in the future. (I don't travel enough to care about slim chances of getting $9 fares.) And about that $9 fare? Occasional low fares are available to everyone for $10 more. I keep getting emails about low fares, but because I'm a "member" I save $10. While at the airport, the Spirit Airlines waiting area was filled with nothing but long faces. Everyone look miserable as we headed to sunny Arizona from frigid Minnesota. And everyone within earshot was complaining about their experience booking with and feeling ripped-off by Spirit Airlines. Class action lawsuit coming up? Don't know but it made me wonder. The good news is all we?re saying "never again." During our vacation, we retold our experience to many people. One night we overheard a couple exclaiming, "We'll never travel Spirit Airlines after what they told us!!!"

I was excited that I thought I had gotten a "deal." Boy, was I mistaken! I had no idea that it was "cheaper" to check your baggage online. So when we got to the airport - I was expecting to pay the normal $25 a bag (was checking in 2 bags) since that is what almost EVERY OTHER AIRLINE charges. Oh no... I was floored when she came back with $100!! $50 a bag?!? Are you kidding?! The airline representative very rudely said, "Well you should have checked them in online, it's cheaper!" "Oh sorry, I didn't do that and actually gave you something to do for the money they are paying you other than to just sit there and be rude. Sorry, I put you to work, lady." Anyway, I reluctantly paid and we proceeded to the gate. Once boarded, we couldn't believe the quality of seating we had. I get it, it's a "cheap" airline... But seriously... The most uncomfortable seats ever! And they didn't even spring to add a back pocket to the seat where you keep the pamphlets. Oh no... Those were secured in by little bungee cords crisscrossed. The tray table was about the size of an iPad mini. Every time I set my bottled water on it - it fell off. It was pointless to even use. If you are thirsty, be prepared to pay money. This airline doesn't even offer complimentary water! NOTHING was complimentary. And boy did they really push for you to buy liquor! I felt like I was at a bar! The airline staff thought they were being clever with their jokes over the intercom - but they were not funny and simply annoying. After a very uncomfortable flight - we finally arrived at LAX. Upon our return home - we thought we were going to save money on the way home by going to a local print shop and checking in our bags online as well as printing our boarding pass to avoid the insane long line we stood in the first time. Wrong. It still cost us $80 to check both bags ONLINE. SO yeah... $40 instead of $50 at the airport!! Completely ridiculous!! We paid a total of $180 in addition to our trip just for friggin checking 2 bags each way that only weighed 20lbs!!! If your bag weighs over 40lbs, be prepared to pay $100!!! Most airlines have a 50lbs limit before they charge you more. Not this cheap airline. Oh no - theirs is 40lbs. Absolutely ridiculous. Once we arrived at the airport - we looked for a checked bags/printed boarding pass line but to our dismay, it didn't exist. We still had to wait in the very long line to give them our luggage. The ride home was even more miserable since we took a redeye. We did not sleep a wink since it was impossible to get remotely comfortable. So that $196 roundtrip ticket I thought I got a deal on turned out to be $286 each round trip. For that - I would have MUCH rather just gone with another much more comfortable airline that at least gives you free water and doesn't overcharge you in fees!! This airline sucks, their customer service sucks, they rob you any chance they get, and I think I would rather take a cargo plane carrying chickens vs ever riding on this flying turd again.

So Spirit Airlines charged me $210 to send three suitcases to Florida (round trip) after purchasing the ticket. They lost Kimberly Justus Latora's suitcase. Agent: "Here's your claim receipt, IF we find it we'll bring it to you" Website says you can't file a claim until it doesn't show up for 5 days. There's no customer service line to call for updated information on the form or the website. There's a link to get updates: When I key in my last name and claim number it says, "doesn't match" So I see the crappy penmanship and that she may have spelled my name "Lotora" so I try that even though it was spelled correctly on the ticket and the system when she looked up my flight. Still no luck. No way to back out and talk to anyone to get the situation resolved or get an update. Not sharing to get you to feel sorry for me but I am sharing so that if you ever search Orbitz or Expedia or Priceline and see Spirit Airlines flight that looks like a deal you'll keep scrolling and not even consider it as an option.

This is an airline short of charging you to use their toilets onboard. Always late, poor service, really nasty customer services reps, their airplanes sucks, no entertainment such as music or TV. The seats are somewhat similar to old bus seats in a banana republic. They do not announce any delays because they already collected your money, so screw you. This horrible airline posted the highest profit among all the operating airlines. You need to have more than 40K FF miles in order to get a free flight for 1 1/2 hour flight. Now to acquire these miles is impossible. The founders or executive management of this rotten airlines are the most despicable animals only out to empty your wallet. My experience after flying them 8 times giving them the benefit of doubt led me to make the decision of never to use this airline again. This airline turns out to be more expensive to travel on than other major carriers with better services and on time schedule. One day they will appear before the court of law for fleecing travelers but my hope is for them to go out of business

Have 150,000 Spirit Miles built up (mostly due to Spirit being the only Airline that flys direct from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlantic City, NJ). Booked and paid for front row seats on an outgoing flight; Exit row seats on returning flight. Credit Card was charged. Email from Spirit confirmed the seats. When printing the Boarding Passes 4 - 5 days later - did not show the seats paid for. Sat on hold 2 hours prior to flight out and again 1 hour for flight back. Nothing was solved; flew in the unassigned seats with expectation I would be reimbursed for what I paid for (really, the only reason the front and exit seats were paid for was I was traveling with a 6'2" dude with a broken ankel ... he needed leg room). Sat on hold 1 more hour to request a refund of the $ 288.00 paid for the front row / exit seats. Customer rep actually said "why do you want a refund if you flew safely"? Rather than get ticked, I solely replied, how are you going to refund me the money paid for the seats I didn't receive? 20 minutes laater she graciously agreed to credit me back ... which will take 7 - 10 business days, per her. Sorry folks, Spirit's website is juvenial & condensending; It's customer service is a negative 2 and any money you 'supposedly save' is eaten up by 2 hours on their site, 3 hours on hold and 24% delayed flights. I'm going to 'gift' my 150K Spirit miles to a 23 year neice that has more time to sit on hold than I do.

Spirit Airlines is the worse airlines in the business. I and my girlfriend had flight reservations from Santo Domingo to Baltimore, Md. on 15 Jan.2016, the flight was canceled due to bad weather in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. They wouldn't provide hotel or food service to us because of the cancelation. They would not book us on another flight. They charged us $370 for our baggage (3). Terrible customer service. I've been flying for 50 years and this is the worse I've been treated by any airlines. I will never fly with them again and advise all who read this to do the same. They didn't reimburse me for my airline tickets either. I'm considering contacting CNN, Fox News and anyone else who will listen to my complaint. Vernon Hargrove 703-595-5346. Four years ago I literally almost missed my own wedding because of Spirit. We had them booked months in advance....they had my email and phone number all this time, obviously. I just happened to login to our agenda a week before our trip to Jamaica (where we were getting married) and just happened to see the flight was cancelled!! They never even notified me either by phone or email. NOTHING. Then I had to go through the hassle with customer service giving me the run-around with rescheduling. I couldnt re-schedule because we had to be on the island for 72 hours for our marriage to be legal! In the end we switched to Delta and had a great experience. Spirit was very slow doing the refund. Who cancels a flight and gives NO notification whatsoever to the customers? Spirit rips people off in the worst way. They were never getting my business again anyways, but after the way they treat the US military, they don't deserve ANYBODY'S business!

I hate Spirit airlines. They suck!! I had a terrible time with them when we went to Killingtn for a race and was flying back. We got there in time to check in but the stupid check in machine said see person at desk. which there was NO ONE!! I had checked in the night before on their website and they claimed I check out and canceled my flight which I did not. Did not even see that option! So I waited for the people who work the desk to finally come back. which meant I missed my flight. I got into a disagreement with the customer service on the phone, 4 times trying to get it fixed. Finally had to just wait. they finally showed up LATE!! Were rude and hateful! Finally got our flight rescheduled. But at our cost. And only ONE FLIGHT a day flew out of Boston to Chicago . REALLY!!!! So we had to find a car and find a room for the night. We were 3 hours ahead the next day. Long wait. I avoid this airline at all cost!!

My horrible experience was in fort lauderdale. After waiting over an hour just to check in The plane door closed just as we walked up to the gate. I had to argue with a spirit employee to try to make some kind of helping effort. She said i can go back to the checkin counter for help. Yea ok and wait another hour and a half. After arguing with 2 employees for 20 minutes the plane backed out and left. I was close to the window and sure the pilots saw me gesturing.i wrote corporate and not surprisingly got no response. They probably oversold it by 10 seats anyway.

I had really bad experience this week. I booked Spirit Airlines Flight 331 on Aug 17th from LGA to ORD. Yet I was told that my flight was canceled when I check in due to weather reason. I wasn't notified by phone or email. Spirit told me they can help me change my flight from Monday to Thursday, but I need to pay the extra costs on hotels, food, transportation, etc. And spirit doesn't agree to give any compensation. That's ridiculous!!! I've never met an airline who ask their customers to be responsible for their delay or canceling flight.
